As the global deployment of 5G networks deepens, the commercial deployment of 5G MMW is also gradually unfolding around the world. Major U.S. carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon are all providing commercial 5G MMW service. Domestic carriers are also actively developing MMW service. According to GSA data, as of June 2020, in the spectral range of 24.25-29.5 GHz alone, 127 carriers in 42 countries/regions had invested in 5G in the forms of testing, licensing, deployment or carrier networks.
During 2021 MWC Shanghai, a symposium on the Application of 5G MMW in the Sports Industry was held. SIMCom Senior Vice President Li Yongsheng shared the latest developments of SIMCom in 5G MMW at the symposium.
As an integral part of 5G, MMW will help unlock the huge potential of 5G. Sports venues, conference centers and crowded places are excellent places for 5G MMW application. The large capacity, large bandwidth and ultra-low latency of 5G MMW will bring a better event experience, actively mobilize the atmosphere in the venue and bring a good venue experience.
As early as in 2020, SIMCom launched the 5G MMW module SIM8300G-M2 and got ready for commercial use. In the C30 exhibition area of Hall N4 at 2021 MWC, SIMCom set up a dedicated MMW exhibition area.
At the event venue, with the help of 5G MMW module SIM8300G-M2, through the coordination between drones, video cameras and professional cameras, multi-angle real-time rotary shooting of the venue can be realized. Mr. Li also pointed out that the infrastructure for MMW is not perfect yet, the upfront cost is too high, and it’s technically demanding, so industry partners need to work together to advance the commercial use of MMW.
SIM8300G-M2 is a multi-band 5G LTE-FDD/LTE-TDD/HSPA MMW module using M.2 package. It supports 5G NSA/SA networking and covers the bands of the world's major carries. It’s compatible with a variety of communication protocols, highly scalable and equipped with various interfaces. It can be widely used in virtual reality, augmented reality, CPE and other terminals, creating Internet of Vehicles, industrial IoT, smart healthcare, 4k/8k HD videos and other application scenarios, supporting AIoT. Meanwhile, the AT command of SIM8300G-M2 is compatible with SIM7912G/SIM8200-M2 series modules, which can effectively shorten product development time and reduce costs.
