SIMCom | NB-IoT and IoT solutions Seminar

2019-09-16 12:37:00

Recently, SIMCom had several hands-on seminars on NB-IoT and IoT solutions with 1NCE and EBV Elektronik. One was held in Kaarst, Germany on September 4th. The newest technic was shared on the seminar and all the people had a great time there. The workshop offers developers and IoT enthusiasts the chance to explore the technical possibilities of efficient multiband NB-IoT modules.

According to a new study conducted by Grand View Research, Inc., It is assumed that the NB-IoT market size will reach to USD 6,020.2 million by 2025. All the components of NB-IoT are trying to grasp this chance and want to benefit from this adventure. In terms of SIMCom, it plays an important role in the sector of hardware as it provides modules, which has released several NB modules, such as SIM7020G, SIM7070G and SIM7080G. Compared with other modules, these NB modules are anticipated to have lower power consumption and increased coverage area.

In the workshop, SIMCom’s colleagues shared the information of NB modules. Regarding SIM7020G, it is a multi-band NB-IoT wireless communication module with 42 PIN LCC packaging. It has strong extension capability with rich interfaces including UART, SPI, I2C, GPIO etc. Except that, the package of SIM7020G is compatible with previous module SIM800C (2G module with LCC package), so it can shorten customers’ R&D time as much as possible and speed up their launching of products on the market. SIM7070G and SIM7080G are also NB modules.  SIM7080G has the same size of SIM7020G; both are 17.6 X 15.7 X 2.3 mm. For SIM7070G, it is bigger than these two with 24X24X2.3mm, and it is compatible with SIM868.

These NB modules are designed for applications that need low latency, Low throughput data communication in a variety of radio propagation conditions, such as basement. They offers advantages such as reduced cost and reduced power consumption for an increased coverage area which is primarily boosting the adoption of emerging narrowband IoT technology. They are very suitable to smart metering, alarms and event detectors, smart bins, asset tracking, smart parking, and others. Smart bicycles, smart agriculture, smart wearable, logistics and container tracking also can get benefits from these NB modules. Another advantage is the long battery life which is supposed to last for more than 10 years.
