According a forecast by CAICT, 5G will drive more than ¥8 trillion of emerging spending until 2025. 5G-based new capital construction is in full swing. The ecosystem and industrial chain are speeding up across the board. SIMCom Product Department’s general manager Deng Qianhuai expressed his views on this.
IoT Builds a Bridge between the Digital World and the Real World
According to Mr. Deng, while 4G has changed the way people connect to each other, 5G will change the way people connect to things. The number of IoT connections will grow dramatically in the future. In particular, cellular IoT will grow at a rate of 25% a year, and the number of cellular IoT connections is expected to reach 2.5 billion by 2025. Industrial automation, smart grids, smart homes, automobiles and other terminals all need to be connected. IoT will build a real bridge between the digital world and the real world.
SIMCom’s full-scale product lines
With the exit of 2G and 3G networks, a cellular IoT world dominated by NB-IoT, 4G and 5G connections will be formed. SIMCom has deployed full-scale product lines for this, to cover application demands in all scenarios at different levels.
For demands in NB-IoT scenarios requiring low rates, wide coverage, massive connections and small data, SIMCom has launched a number of NB-IoT modules based on Qualcomm, Hisilicon, MTK, Spreadtrum and other platforms, so that customers can choose the best products according their business forms.
For demands in 4G network scenarios that require low latencies, medium rate, SIMCom has launched LTE Cat.1 modules SIM7500CE, A7600X and A7670X.
For demands in 4G network scenarios that require medium and high rates, SIMCom has launched LTE Cat.4 module SIM7600X, LTE Cat.6 module SIM7906-M. 2,
LTE Cat.12 module SIM7912G-M2 and LTE Cat.20 module SIM7920G-M2, etc.
For 5G, SIMCom has launched modules SIM8200EA-M2, SIM8200G and SIM8300G-M2.
At present, SIMCom product lines have supported more than 200 million smart device connections around the world.
Wi-Fi 6 and 5G Complement Each Other and Coexist
Mr. Deng also said that the coming era of the Internet of Everything will require the integration of multiple communication technologies. For this, SIMCom has launched the Wi-Fi 6 module W80, which integrates innovative communication technologies such as MU-MIMO, OFDMA, TWT. It can be quickly deployed to enable new application scenarios, and will be effectively applied in smart homes, wireless offices, indoor networks and other scenarios. It’s suitable for enterprises, schools, villas and other indoor scenarios.
5G networks are more suitable for outdoor seamless wide area public network coverage, and more applicable in scenarios with high requirements for roaming and latencies. Due to their respective technical features, Wi-Fi 6 and 5G will respectively dominate indoor and outdoor scenarios. The two are complementary in many cases. SIMCom 5G module SIM8200G and Wi-Fi 6 module formed a marvelous 5G+ Wi-Fi 6 scheme, providing a high-speed stable indoor and outdoor network solution. In the future, Wi-Fi 6 and 5G will complement and coexist with each other.
Currently, SIMCom has two 5G modules for commercial use, SIM8200EA-M2 (M2 packaging) and SIM8200G (LGA packaging). Both modules use Qualcomm's SDX55 platform, support NSA and SA networks, and can cover 3G / 4G / 5G frequency bands of the three major domestic carriers and those in many countries and regions around the world. Both modules have a rich set of interfaces, including USB3.1/PCIE Gen3/RGMII and other communication interfaces. They can be widely used in CPE, video surveillance, industrial gateways, vehicle-mounted smart devices and other fields. In terms of 5G market promotion, SIMCom has reached strategic cooperation with China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom on 5G terminals.
5G CPE Brings Convenient High-Speed Network Access
SIMCom 5G modules have been used in CPE solutions. 5G CPE terminals integrate a variety of new-generation wireless technologies, including 5G and Wi-Fi 6, to convert 5G signals into Wi-Fi signals. The perfect combination of 5G and Wi-Fi 6 enables users to connect different terminals to the network through Wi-Fi and enjoy the high-speed network services brought by 5G. Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) does not need wiring and requires only a data service card. This means that wherever there is a 4G/5G signal, you can connect to a 5G network for Internet access and enjoy indoor connectivity for complex scenarios via Wi-Fi 6. Compared with traditional FTTX devices before, it improves user mobility and convenience, providing a good “last mile” network solution.
