With the rapid advance in railroad construction in China in recent years, a railroad network covering the whole country has been established. It is expected that by the end of 2020, the nationwide railroad operational mileage will reach 146,000 kilometers, including 38,000 kilometers of high-speed railroads and 90,000 kilometers of railroads in the central and western regions. A sound railroad system makes it easier for people to travel around, and has also become the main transport force during the annual Spring Festival travel rush. Behind the enormous number of travelers are the railroad inspection staffs that are busy doing their job to safeguard the passengers on their way home.
Early in the morning and late at night, railroad inspectors need to carefully check the fences on both sides of the railway maintained with their flashlights and prevent other people from entering the inside of the railroad. At the same time, they inspect the railroad track drives, metal components, rollers, idlers, coal pipes, coal dividing baffles, trestles, transfer stations and other auxiliary equipment, and operate and maintain them in situ. By seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, etc., they identify and record defects and hidden dangers of the equipment and report them in time.
As traditional flashlights and inspection lights only have lighting functions, problems identified cannot be transmitted to the back end in time nor archived, and recurring problems cannot be recorded and analyzed. Smart flashlight and head-mounted 4G camera light developed based on smart module SIM8905E provides lighting function as well as on-site photo transmission function. The 8-megapixel HD photos can be quickly transmitted back via the flashlight, so that managers can clearly see the scene and give solutions quickly. At the same time, the data can be archived in the background to facilitate analysis of railroad conditions and improve maintenance efficiency.
SIM8905 is an LTE Cat 4 smart module with Android and Linux system that supports wireless communication. It adopts Qualcomm 4-core 32-bit ARM Cortex-A7 processor, with frequency up to 1.1GHz and AdrenoTM 304 GPU. It features 2-ch high-resolution camera and capacitive touch screen, with fast data transmission and multimedia processing capability.
