From November 12 to 15, SIMCom participated in Electronica 2024, one of the world’s most important trade fairs in the electronics sector, held at Messe München in Munich, Germany. At booth B6.350, SIMCom showcased its advanced range of IoT communication and solutions, focusing on IoT technologies such as 5G, LTE-A, LPWA, and GNSS.
Among the highlights, SIMCom demonstrated the capabilities of its IoT modules, designed to provide efficient and adaptable IoT connectivity across a wide variety of industrial sectors.
SIMCom's technical team conducted technical presentations and answered attendees' questions, who also had the opportunity to explore practical applications of the modules in real time.
During the event, SIMCom addressed two key developments in its portfolio of wireless modules: the SIM8230, based on 5G RedCap technology, and the SIM7070G-HP-S, designed for non-terrestrial networks (NTN).
Connectivity Innovations: SIM8230 and SIM7070G-HP-S
The SIM8230 module represents a RedCap solution that combines the speed, latency, and reliability of 5G with a cost-effective focus for IoT applications that do not require the full performance of this technology. Compatible with the 3GPP Rel-17 standard, the module supports 5G SA and offers speeds of up to 220 Mbps (DL) / 100 Mbps (UL) for Sub-6G SA, or 200 Mbps (DL) / 75 Mbps (UL) for LTE. Its compact design (LGA+LCC) and compatibility with AT commands from previous modules make it an ideal choice for various IoT and M2M applications, such as indoor CPE, MiFi, and industrial control. Versions are available to suit different regions.
On the other hand, the SIM7070G-HP-S module is designed for IoT applications in environments where terrestrial networks are limited or non-existent. Compatible with 3GPP Rel-17 in L and S bands, this 24 x 24 mm compact module enables low-latency, low-bandwidth satellite communications, essential for remote monitoring, asset tracking, and metering. It offers speeds of up to 250 kbps (DL) / 200 kbps (UL) for IoT-NTN, and 589 kbps (DL) / 1119 kbps (UL) for Cat-M data. Its low power consumption extends battery life to up to 10 years, making it an efficient solution for IoT projects in remote conditions.
Commitment to Technological Innovation
Both developments reflect SIMCom's commitment to technological innovation in IoT connectivity, meeting the needs of industrial sectors and adapting to the challenges of the global environment.
During the exhibition, Mads Fischer, Sales Director for Europe, highlighted the importance of these technological advancements: "RedCap is very attractive for customers seeking the rapid deployment of IoT applications that meet 5G requirements, but which must also consider cost. Our new range of SIM8230 RedCap modules enable systems designers to get up and running quickly and easily."
Regarding the NTN communication module, Fischer added: "A key differentiating feature for us is that SIMCom has always focused on wireless communication for IoT applications. Delivering a unique combination of performance, security and flexibility, this module is ideally suited for M2M applications, such as metering, asset tracking, remote monitoring, E-health etc."
SIMCom's participation in Electronica 2024 reaffirms its leadership in developing IoT solutions that combine performance, security, and flexibility, addressing the demands of an ever- evolving global market.
