April 1st marks International Bird Loving Day, established under the World Convention for the Protection of Birds. As global awareness of bird conservation grows, monitoring wild birds remains a challenge due to their vast range of activity. Tracking smaller bird species is particularly difficult, requiring lightweight and high-performance solutions. SIMCom’s GNSS provide an advanced tracking solution tailored for bird monitoring, offering lighter, more efficient, and bird-friendly positioning technology to support ongoing research into avian behavior.
Effective bird migration research requires precise and lightweight tracking solutions to avoid disrupting natural behavior. Weighing only 0.5g (about the weight of a soybean) and measuring just 14.0×9.6×2.15mm, SIMCom's SIM32ELA GNSS module is designed to meet these needs. Its ultra-light and compact design ensures minimal burden on birds, making it ideal for avian tracking. By integrating into monitoring devices, it enables continuous data collection on flight altitude, speed, duration, and real-time positioning, supporting conservation efforts and ecological studies.
SIM32ELA supports multi-constellation GNSS, including GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Galileo, and QZSS, ensuring highly accurate and reliable tracking across diverse environments. With 47 GNSS receiver channels and AIROHA's high-sensitivity navigation engine, it achieves accuratepositioning performance, rapid Time-to-First-Fix (TTFF), and efficient satellite acquisition. The built-in AGPS (EASY™) and AlwaysLocate™ technology further optimize power consumption, extending operational longevity for long-distance tracking.
Bird tracking solutions based on the SIM32ELA module feature low power consumption, enabling continuous monitoring of flight altitude, duration, speed, and real-time location. By analyzing this data, researchers can gain deeper insights into bird migration routes, behavioral patterns, breeding grounds, and habitats, leading to more effective conservation of small bird species while enhancing monitoring efficiency and scientific accuracy.
Additionally, the SIM32ELA comes with an embedded antenna, simplifying device design by eliminating the need for an external antenna, making integration easier for developers to create more optimized bird tracking solutions.
Certified with CE, RoHS, and REACH, SIM32ELA ensures global connectivity. As migratory birds traverse international boundaries, thewirelessmodule’s adaptability to global network infrastructure makes it an ideal solution for large-scale ecological studies and conservation efforts. By delivering high-precision, low-power, and ultra-lightweight GNSS tracking, SIMCom empowers researchers to enhance bird monitoring with minimal ecological impact.
